GHK Cu is a complex formed by the combination of a polypeptide (Tripeptide-1) composed of glycyl-l-histyl-l-lysine and copper ions. Because of their blue appearance, they are customarily called Copper peptides, also known as Tripeptide-1 copper.
Dr. LorenPickart, the discoverer of Copper Peptide, has focused on its research for nearly 50 years. SkinBiology, a cosmetics brand founded by him, has developed a variety of skincare products with copper peptides and verified the real use effect of skin care products with copper peptides as raw material through user spontaneous test (see Figure 1).

Now we all know that GHK Cu was discovered by LorenPickart in 1973. However, the story of copper peptide really began in 1962. LorenPickart was studying human aging at the University of Minnesota. He observed that young blood (people aged 20-25) could restore the vitality of old hepatocytes. In 1973, in his doctoral thesis on biochemistry at the University of California, It was found that the tripeptide GHK in human serum can prolong the survival of hepatocytes. In 1980, Dr. pickart found that GHK could easily form a complex with copper and play a role. In 1984, he analyzed the structure of the copper peptide complex (as shown in Figure 2).
With the deepening of research, Dr. pickart and researchers around the world found many amazing effects of this complex. In 1985, Pickart founded a company called ProCyte to develop copper peptide into a product for human use and obtained a patent on its application and its derivatives in cosmetics and skin treatment in 1988.
Over the past 15 years, they have been studying how the complex of tripeptide and copper works in the body. Its role is not only to repair skin damage, reduce wrinkles and increase skin elasticity but also has an important impact on hair growth, stem cell differentiation, and gene regulation.
