1. Product Introduction

Lactoferrin (LF) is a vital non-heme iron-binding glycoprotein naturally present in mammalian milk. It is widely recognized as a core functional ingredient for infant nutrition, immune regulation and intestinal health. The lactoferrin concentration in human milk reaches 1.0–3.2 mg/ml, which is approximately 10 times higher than that in bovine milk, while human colostrum contains up to 6–14 mg/ml lactoferrin with extremely high biological activity.

Our bulk lactoferrin powder is refined from high-quality milk and dairy raw materials through strict separation, sterilization, enzymatic extraction, purification and low-temperature drying processes. Industrial production raw materials are mainly derived from fresh milk and high-activity bovine colostrum with rich lactoferrin content. The whole production process complies with New Zealand and Australian official standards, ensuring high purity, high activity and stable batch quality.

The finished lactoferrin powder is uniform pink fine powder, odorless and tasteless, freely soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol. With excellent physical stability and biological activity, it is widely used in infant formula, nutritional supplements, functional food and health care products.

Lactoferrin Powder

Global Market Insights said that lactoferrin is related to infant nutrition, immune health and microbiome.

1. Improve iron deficiency anemia.

Lactoferrin powder can improve iron levels in patients with iron deficiency anemia. The researchers concluded that lactoferrin supplementation can better increase serum ferritin, iron, and hemoglobin levels compared with ferrous sulfate.

2. Improve immunity and suppress viruses.
Studies have confirmed that LF has an in vitro inhibitory effect on the SARS-CoV-2 virus that may cause COVID-19.

Mirabelli used 1,400 US Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs and compounds to treat human cell lines infected with the new coronavirus and found that LF could significantly reduce the cell infection rate of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

3. LF can reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal diseases and has an antibacterial effect on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, etc.

4. Lactoferrin strengthens the intestinal epithelial barrier by promoting the expression of occludin and claudin, which helps maintain the integrity of the intestinal lining. Lactoferrin can inhibit inflammatory signaling pathways by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin 6 (IL-6), helping to reduce intestinal inflammation. Current evidence suggests that lactoferrin is beneficial for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

2. Core Functions & Efficacy

According to Global Market Insights, lactoferrin is closely associated with infant nutritional development, human immune health and intestinal microecological balance, with multiple verified physiological functions.

2.1 Improve Iron Deficiency Anemia

Lactoferrin features efficient iron binding and transport capacity. Clinical studies have confirmed that lactoferrin supplementation is more effective than traditional ferrous sulfate in improving iron deficiency anemia. It can significantly increase serum ferritin, serum iron and hemoglobin levels, rapidly improve human iron deficiency, and solve anemia problems caused by insufficient iron intake or poor iron absorption, suitable for infants, pregnant women and vulnerable groups.

2.2 Boost Immunity & Anti-viral Activity

Lactoferrin is a natural immune active protein with excellent immunomodulatory and antiviral effects. Multiple in vitro studies have verified that LF has significant inhibitory activity against SARS-CoV-2 virus. In a scientific experiment using 1,400 FDA-approved drugs and compounds for new coronavirus intervention, lactoferrin was proven to significantly reduce the infection rate of human cells by SARS-CoV-2, effectively resisting viral invasion and reducing respiratory infection risks.

2.3 Broad-spectrum Antibacterial & Gastrointestinal Protection

LF has definite inhibitory effects on common harmful intestinal bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. It can reduce the colonization and reproduction of pathogenic bacteria in the intestine, effectively lower the incidence of gastrointestinal infectious diseases, and maintain intestinal flora balance.

2.4 Repair Intestinal Barrier & Relieve Intestinal Inflammation

Lactoferrin can up-regulate the expression of intestinal tight junction proteins (occludin and claudin), strengthen the intestinal epithelial barrier, and maintain the integrity of intestinal mucosal lining. Meanwhile, it inhibits the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines represented by IL-6, blocks inflammatory signaling pathways, and alleviates intestinal inflammatory responses. It has positive auxiliary improvement effects on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

3. Main Application Fields

3.1 Functional Nutritional Supplements

Approved mainstream lactoferrin health product dosage forms include powder, capsules and granules. It is widely developed into targeted nutritional supplements for infants, pregnant women, lying-in women and the elderly, focusing on improving immunity, promoting iron absorption and protecting intestinal health.

3.2 Food Nutritional Fortifier

As a safe and efficient natural nutritional fortifier, lactoferrin is widely added in infant formula milk powder, dairy products, functional beverages and daily nutritional food to enhance product nutritional value and improve human nutrient absorption.

3.3 Custom OEM Finished Products

We provide one-stop contract manufacturing and customized OEM services. Support customized processing of multiple dosage forms including lactoferrin powder, tablets, capsules and gummies, meeting customers' personalized finished product production and brand customization needs.

4. Product & Service Advantages

Our lactoferrin raw materials adopt high-quality milk source extraction technology, fully compliant with New Zealand and Australian international quality standards, with 98.1% high purity, low impurities and high biological activity. In addition to high-purity bulk raw materials, we support full-process OEM/ODM customized production from formula development, dosage form customization to finished product packaging, providing professional one-stop solution for global customers.

Lactoferrin Powder

What is the use of lactoferrin powder?

There are three dosage forms of lactoferrin health products that have been approved for marketing: powder, capsule, and granule.

Lactoferrin products are widely used in infants, pregnant women and the elderly.

1.  Lactoferrin supplements are usually sold in capsule form.

2. As a food nutritional enhancer.
