plant extract description

What is rosmarinic acid ?

Rosemary is a natural spice plant, native to Europe and the Mediterranean coast of North Africa. It is mainly cultivated as a cash crop in southern Europe. It is one of the earliest plants used in medicine.

Rosmarinic acid powder is a naturally occurring phenylpropanoid compound with a special herbal smell, fresh aroma, and refreshing effect. It was first discovered in rosemary and is commonly found in prunella vulgaris and Perilla, it can also be synthesized artificially.

Rosemary extract can be prepared by ethanol extraction, methanol extraction, carbon dioxide extraction and other processes.

★ Rosmarinic acid structure:

Structurally, rosmarinic acid is an ester formed by the condensation of one molecule of caffeic acid and one molecule of tanshinol.

★ Rosmarinic acid solubility:

Soluble in water, but solubility changes with temperature. Generally speaking, it dissolves more easily in hot water than in cold water.
Soluble in ethanol and methanol.

plant extract function

Rosmarinic acid health benefits

1. Rosmarinic acid benefits for skin:

Antioxidant components in rosemary extract include rosmarinic acid, rosmarinol, flavonoids, carnosyl alcohol, carnosic acid, etc.
In addition, rosemary also contains phenolics, which overall exhibit antioxidant properties. Research shows that the antioxidant substances rich in rosmarinic acid can effectively remove free radicals in the body, slow down cell aging, and protect the body from oxidative stress. This not only helps to improve skin quality, but also helps in the treatment of skin diseases, oral ulcers and other diseases.
Since the generated phenolic oxygen free radicals are relatively stable and react slowly with lipids, they block the transmission and growth of free radical chains and inhibit the oxidation process.

2. Rosmarinic acid antiviral:

It also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Rosemary is very beneficial to the respiratory system. For example, it can relieve respiratory symptoms such as colds and bronchitis. It can also inhibit the growth of some bacteria and viruses and has certain bactericidal and antiviral effects.

3. Rosmarinic acid for allergies:

An article published in the journal "Biological Factors" stated that rosmarinic acid can help relieve the overall condition of allergy symptoms and can improve symptoms such as itchy nose, watery eyes, and itchy eyes.
Rosmarinic acid and flavonoids work together to significantly improve nasal discomfort caused by pollen and dust.

4. Rosmarinic acid has a protective effect on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, which can prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

5. Rosmarinic acid alzheimer disease:

Rosemary extract can prevent and treat Alzheimer's disease caused by neurodegeneration.
A 2020 human clinical study found that taking 500mg of rosmarinic acid daily may help prevent the progression of Alzheimer's disease.

What is rosemary extract powder used for?

1. In addition to its use in traditional herbal medicine, rosmarinic acid is also widely used in foods.
It can be used as a flavoring agent and food preservative. The United States and Japan were the first countries to study rosemary. In Japan, 95% acetic acid extract of rosemary is used as a food additive to prevent oxidative deterioration.

2. Added to cosmetics as an antioxidant and antibacterial agent. In addition, rosmarinic acid-related products are often made into herbal shampoos to improve scalp problems such as dandruff, regulate oil secretion, and promote scalp health.

3. It is widely used in daily chemical products, perfume, soap, rosmarinic acid essential oil, air freshener, insect repellent, etc.

4. Rosmarinic acid powder shows great potential in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries.
