Ambroxide powder is a natural terpenoid compound synthesized from sclareol. It is a synthetic aromatic compound commonly used in perfumes to create an ambergris-like aroma. China is rich in fragrant perilla plant resources and has become the largest Salvia sclarea planting base.

★Process and synthesis route：
We have a very mature process for extracting sclareol from Salvia sclarea.
Using sclareol as the starting material and hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant, ambroxide is synthesized through catalysts such as heteropolyacid salts. This process is easy to operate, causes little pollution, is sustainable, and is environmentally friendly.
The advantage of this method is to reduce synthesis steps, shorten reaction time, and lower reaction temperature.

It mainly includes 3 stages:

①The oxidation stage, in which sclareol is oxidized by the oxidant to form sclareolactone;
②In the reduction stage, it is reduced by reducing agents such as LiAlH4 or KBH4 to form ambroxanediol;
③In the cyclization stage, under the action of organic acids, sulfonyl chloride compounds or Lewis acid, dehydration and cyclization generate ambroxide.

Ambroxide is one of the most critical active ingredients in natural ambergris tincture. It has a soft, long-lasting and stable ambergris aroma and a mild woody aroma.

Ambroxide powder is an excellent fixative, an excellent substitute for natural ambergris, and is the most recognized of the synthetic ambergris fragrances.
1. Since it is non-irritating and non-allergenic, it is very suitable for scenting skin and hair and is widely used in personal care products and daily chemical industries.
2. Used as food additive. The Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) under the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations recognizes it as a safe edible spice. The United Nations and World Health Organization also recognize its food safety. And it is recognized as a safe edible flavor by the American Food Flavors and Extracts Manufacturing Association (FEMA). It is included in the list of food synthetic spices allowed to be used in my country's food additive usage standards (GB2760-2011).
