Lauric acid, also known as dodecanoic acid, accounts for 1-3% of laurel oil. As a saturated fatty acid, it appears as a white, crystalline, waxy solid. Its powder is insoluble in water, soluble in methanol, and slightly soluble in acetone.
Lauric acid and lauryl alcohol can be used as raw materials to produce surfactants with bactericidal and disinfecting properties.
