Minoxidil Powder

Minoxidil powder, as a potassium channel opener, has a vasodilating effect. It was initially developed as a peripheral vasodilator for the treatment of hypertension.
Topical minoxidil is the first drug approved by the US FDA for promoting hair growth. It is used to promote hair growth with an efficacy of about 50%.

Minoxidil Powder

Minoxidil can prolong the growth period of hair follicles by enhancing the activity of β-catenin and stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of hair follicles. It is currently the only drug for treating hair loss that can regulate the growth cycle of hair follicles. When used topically for a long time, it can stimulate hair growth in patients with androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata.

(1) Acting on skin blood flow: Some researchers have proposed that minoxidil promotes hair growth by promoting scalp skin blood vessel dilation and stimulating microcirculation around hair follicles.

(2) Acting on immune function: Some scholars have found that the degree of hair regeneration after the application of minoxidil is positively correlated with the disappearance of lymphocyte infiltration around the hair follicles in the alopecia area.

(3) Acting on epidermal cells: Foreign experiments suggest that minoxidil can prolong the survival of human epidermal cells in culture. Although the aging of cells in culture and the transition of hair from the growth phase to the resting phase are different processes, the two may be stimulated by the same signal, and minoxidil tincture may inhibit this signal.

In 1987, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the marketing of 2% minoxidil in the United States for the treatment of male pattern baldness.

In 1996, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the production of minoxidil lotion to treat alopecia areata and androgenic alopecia. Literature has confirmed that retinoic acid can increase the activity of sulfotransferase and increase the effectiveness of minoxidil. The combination of retinoic acid and minoxidil can also enhance the effect of hair growth.

Minoxidil powder are available in different dosage forms, and the most common ones on the market are liquid and foam types.
