What is the source of wogonin?

Wogonin is mainly found in the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis and Scutellaria yunnanensis. It appears as yellow needle-shaped crystals, slightly soluble in benzene and water, and very soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, and ethyl acetate.

Process:

Take the root of Scutellaria baicalensis, dry it, and crush it. Use dichloromethane to extract it twice in the greenhouse, and finally extract it again at 60°C. Filter out the extract, concentrate it under reduced pressure, and a yellow precipitate will form after cooling. Filter out the precipitate, dry it, and reflux and recrystallize it in ethanol to obtain wogonin with a purity of more than 95%.

Wogonin

Wogonin has an inhibitory effect on skin allergies and a variety of Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and pathogenic skin fungi.

It may help control conditions such as allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis.

In addition to wogonin, Scutellaria baicalensis contains several other active ingredients:
1. Baicalin (Baicalin): Baicalin is the most abundant flavonoid compound in Scutellaria baicalensis root. It has anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antioxidant and other biological activities.

2. Baicalein: Baicalein is the deglucosyl form of baicalin and has significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial effects.
3. In addition to flavonoids, scutellaria baicalensis root also contains volatile oil, tannins, starch, protein, minerals and other ingredients. Together, these chemical components endow Scutellaria baicalensis root with rich pharmacological effects, making it widely used in traditional Chinese medicine.
