Echinacoside (ECH) is a phenylethanoid glycoside compound extracted from traditional Chinese medicine. It is mainly derived from Cistanches tubulosa and was first found in the rhizomes of Echinacea.
Currently, echinacoside can be extracted from traditional Chinese medicines such as Cistanches Herba, Scrophulariae Radix, and Rehmanniae Radix. The 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia also uses it as a quality control indicator for Cistanches Herba. In Cistanches tubulosa, the content of echinacoside is as high as 30%, which is the main active ingredient of Cistanches Herba.
