Some Pharmacological Effect of Rhodiola

Salidroside extract is extract from Salidroside. It has many functions. Such as, cardiovascular system, central nervous system and so on.


1. Effect on cardiovascular system

Salidroside can significantly reduce the left ventricular end-diastolic intraventricular pressure and blood pressure in rats in a short time, reduce the pre-and post-load of the heart, improve cardiac function, and also significantly reduce the indicators reflecting myocardial contractility, and weaken the contractility of isolated hearts. Salidroside has a two-way effect of excitation and inhibition on isolated frog hearts. Rhodiola alcohol extract can significantly increase the arterial blood pressure of rats, and has a dose-effect relationship. Alcohol extract can also reverse the decrease of blood pressure caused by phentolamine, and the effect on heart rate is irregular. Rhodiola has a certain effect on cardiac contraction and vasoconstriction. Salidroside can protect myocardial cells from hypoxia-reoxygenation injury. It can maintain normal beating frequency, reduce LDH release and maintain normal ultrastructure of myocardial cell membrane, myofibril and mitochondria.

2. Role in the central nervous system

Rhodiola ethanol extract can antagonize the memory impairment induced by scopolamine in mice, and significantly improve the memory reproduction impairment caused by ethanol. Salidroside can enhance the excitability of brainstem reticular system, stimulate the spontaneous potential activity of cortical sensory-motor area, visual area and main subcortical structures, and enhance the potential changes of photoelectric stimulation stress response. Rhodiola can correct the content of 5-HT in the central nervous system which deviates from the normal level, which is an important condition for improving the overall function of the body and the endurance of adverse factors.

3. Effect on immune function

Rhodiola could increase the percentage of T lymphocyte in peripheral blood and the weight and index of spleen and thymus in mice. Rhodiola polysaccharides can reduce the content of Hb in peripheral blood of normal mice, but it increase the immune-depressed mice. It has no obvious effect on the weight of white blood cells and thymus in peripheral blood of mice. It can promote the transformation reaction of spleen lymphocyte and NK cell killing activity of normal mice. At the same time, it can reverse the above indexes of immunosuppressed mice. Rhodiola can regulate the specific and non-specific immune function of normal human body under low temperature, enhance cold resistance and accelerate the establishment of cold adaptation.

4. Antineoplastic effect

Rhodiola extract can inhibit the growth rate and division ability of human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells in vitro, and inhibit the growth and proliferation of cancer cells. Rhodiola can also inhibit the growth and proliferation of cultured hepatocellular carcinoma cells and transplanted hepatocellular carcinoma cells in vitro, reduce DNA synthesis, increase glycogen content and prolong the survival period of mice bearing hepatocellular carcinoma; Rhodiola can inhibit the growth and proliferation of cultured hepatocellular carcinoma cells in vitro in s phase. Rhodiola has inhibitory effect on S180 cells, and the therapeutic effect depends on the dose. Its anti-tumor effect is relatively selective, and the same dose has no toxic effect on non-tumor cells. Rhodiola also inhibited HeLa cells.
