Ginkgo biloba extract is the extract of thin ethanol solution of ginkgo biloba leaves. The main components are "ginkgo flavonoid glycosides" and "terpenoids lactones".

Ginkgo biloba extract also contains ginkgolic acid.

At present, the amount of ginkgolic acid in ginkgo biloba extract is required to be controlled below 5 microns /g internationally.The 2015 edition of the Chinese pharmacopoeia stipulates that the total amount of ginkgolic acid in extracts from ginkgo biloba leaves cannot exceed 10 microns /g.
