Astaxanthin Will Make Us Look Younger?

Dec 16, 2018

Astaxanthin is a carotenoid and the highest-level product of carotenoid synthesis. It is dark pink and chemically similar to beta carotene. Studies have found that astaxanthin supplements can significantly reduce the loss of keratinocytes in the outer layer of the skin and the number of bacteria in the skin.

Published in the journal nutrition research, a study by Lycotec of the United Kingdom and the national medical university of saratov of Russia found that taking 4mg of astaxanthin daily for four weeks reduced oxidative stress markers on facial skin by more than 20 percent.

The researchers recruited 17 men and 14 women. All participants received 4mg/ day astaxanthin supplements for four weeks. The results showed that levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of oxidative stress in the blood, fell 11% after two weeks of taking the supplement and 22% after four weeks.

The results showed that astaxanthin could be used as an effective dietary factor to improve the skin and found a new way to prevent skin aging.
